School-to-Career - What We Are

School-to-Career is an initiative — a philosophy — a method of delivering curriculum. We believe that all children learn better when information is made relevant. We believe that relevancy occurs when students link their school curriculum to workplace realities. Business alliances are the mechanism for School-to-Career. These groups of volunteers work to make curriculum relevant and to help schools with other improvement needs.

Our slogan is "Local businesses making a difference in education." Our unofficial slogan is "Ideas and expertise — not cash." We desire authentic relationships with business leaders to help make our schools better and our students higher achieving.

Wake County's pursuit of an ambitious academic achievement goal has focused attention on motivating students to excel academically in school and to make wise career choices. School-to-Career directly reinforces the school system's work towards its high academic achievement goals: more students at or above grade level, fewer students dropping out of school, and more students going on to post-secondary education or training.

School-to-Career involves:

School-to-Career works when schools and businesses collaborate to provide the best for students. Although School-to-Career supports a number of activities and initiatives, School-to-Career only impacts schools and students when educators and business people form authentic, collaborative relationships. What we do is foster and sustain these relationships with a vision for achieving results for students, teachers and schools.
